Kartu Keluarga in English: every field, the newer card, and the limits of a sample
Updated 14 October 2026
The Kartu Keluarga (KK) is the Indonesian family card. The civil registry (Dukcapil) issues it per household, and it lists every member with their national ID number (NIK) and personal details. Indonesians are often asked for it when applying for visas, enrolling children in school, or opening bank and insurance accounts, so translators, HR teams, and foreign spouses often need to read one. This guide explains each field in English. The sheet above uses the same layout, filled with entries you choose and always marked as a sample.
Kartu Keluarga fields in English
The card has three parts: a header with the KK number and the family address, two member tables, and a footer with the issue date and the official endorsement.
| On the card | In English | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| No. | Family card number | 16 digits: a 6-digit region code, a 6-digit date when the number was created, and a 4-digit serial. See the KK decoder. |
| Nama Kepala Keluarga | Head of family | The person the household is registered under. |
| Alamat, RT/RW, Desa/Kelurahan | Address, neighbourhood unit, village or urban ward | The registered domicile. RT and RW are the smallest neighbourhood units. |
| Kecamatan, Kabupaten/Kota, Provinsi, Kode Pos | District, regency or city, province, postal code | Administrative region. On the sample these follow the region code in the KK number. |
| Nama Lengkap, NIK | Full name, national ID number | Each member's name and 16-digit NIK, which belongs to the person for life. See the NIK decoder. |
| Jenis Kelamin, Tempat Lahir, Tanggal Lahir | Sex, place of birth, date of birth | LAKI-LAKI is male, PEREMPUAN is female. Dates are written day-month-year. |
| Agama | Religion | One of Islam, Kristen (Protestant), Katolik (Catholic), Hindu, Buddha, Khonghucu (Confucian), or Kepercayaan (indigenous faith). |
| Pendidikan | Education | Highest level, for example SLTA/Sederajat (senior high school or equivalent) or Diploma IV/Strata I (bachelor's degree). |
| Jenis Pekerjaan, Golongan Darah | Occupation, blood type | Occupation from a fixed list; blood type A, B, AB, or O. |
| Status Perkawinan, Tanggal Perkawinan | Marital status, date of marriage | See the terms below. |
| Status Hubungan Dalam Keluarga | Relationship to the head of family | See the terms below. |
| Kewarganegaraan, No. Paspor, No. KITAS/KITAP | Citizenship, passport number, stay permit number | WNI is an Indonesian citizen, WNA a foreign national. KITAS and KITAP are temporary and permanent stay permits. |
| Nama Ayah, Nama Ibu | Father's name, mother's name | The parents of each member. |
| Dikeluarkan Tanggal | Date issued | When this version of the card was issued. It changes whenever the card is reissued; the KK number does not. |
Relationship and marital status terms
Status Hubungan Dalam Keluarga is always relative to the head of family: Kepala Keluarga (head of family), Suami (husband), Istri (wife), Anak (child), Menantu (son- or daughter-in-law), Cucu (grandchild), Orang Tua (parent), Mertua (parent-in-law), Famili Lain (other relative), Pembantu (household staff), and Lainnya (other).
Status Perkawinan on a KK is more detailed than on the ID card: Belum Kawin (single, never married), Kawin Tercatat (married, registered), Kawin Belum Tercatat (married under religious law but not registered with the state, often called nikah siri), Cerai Hidup (divorced), Cerai Belum Tercatat (divorced, not registered), and Cerai Mati (widowed). All of these are available in the sample's entry menus.
What the newer Kartu Keluarga looks like
Since 2019 the family card is no longer printed on special paper. The newer model is printed on plain white A4 80 gsm paper with no wet signature or stamp. Instead, a QR code at the bottom right, often called the "barcode", marks the card as authentic and links to Dukcapil records. That is why the newer card can be printed at home from the digital copy Dukcapil sends by email. The columns are almost the same as on the older model, and older cards with a wet signature and stamp remain valid.
The sample on this page deliberately has no QR code, stamp, or state emblem. The QR code on a real card points to official records; a fake one on a sample would only mislead whoever scans it.
How to get and print the newer family card
Apply at the regency or city civil registry (Dinas Dukcapil), in person or through its online service, including the IKD app. Bring the old KK, your electronic ID card, and proof of any change, such as a child's birth certificate or a moving letter; some regions also ask for a letter from the neighbourhood head (RT/RW). Once approved, the card arrives as a PDF by email or in the app, and you print it yourself on plain white A4 80 gsm paper. Its validity is marked by the QR code, which replaces the official's wet signature and stamp. Requirements and apps differ by region, so check the official channels of your local Dukcapil first.
What the sample is for
- Design mockups. Document upload screens for schools, benefits, or account verification (KYC) need a realistic-looking family card without using a real family's data.
- App testing. Developers building KK readers (OCR) or forms need a dummy sheet with the right columns. Member NIKs can come from the dummy NIK generator.
- Teaching and training. Showing where the KK number, member NIKs, or relationship column sit, without exposing anyone's family.
It is not a translation of your own card and not a document. For visa, immigration, or bank applications, embassies and offices usually ask for a translation by a sworn translator (penerjemah tersumpah); the field list above helps you check such a translation, not replace it.
Why the watermark and the "Sample" signatures stay
A sheet that looks exactly like a real KK would be used for fraud, whatever the tool maker intended. So every sheet carries a dense watermark reading "Sample only, NOT a real KK" on screen and in every download, both signatures read Sample, and there is no QR code, stamp, or emblem. There is no blank Word or Excel template here for the same reason. Printing or distributing Indonesian population documents or their blank forms without authority carries up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp1 billion under Articles 96 and 96A of Law No. 24 of 2013, and passing a sample off as a real card is forgery.
