Sample KTP guide: uses, how to make one, and the limits
Updated 14 October 2026
A sample KTP is an image whose layout follows the Indonesian electronic ID card, with invented contents that are clearly marked as a sample. This page builds one from the NIK you type plus the fields you fill in. Here is what to know before using it.
What a sample ID card is for
- Mockups and design. App or website screens that show an identity card, such as the upload step of a KYC flow, need a card that looks plausible without using anyone's real KTP.
- App testing. Developers and testers need dummy cards to try OCR scanning, forms, and sign-up flows. Generate the NIK with the dummy NIK generator, then put it on a card here.
- Teaching and presentations. Trainers and service staff often need to show where the NIK, name, or address sits on a KTP without exposing anyone's data. For the family card, the sample KK page works the same way.
- Practice. Anyone can see how particular data, such as an address or marital status, will look on the card.
What it is not for: opening accounts, borrowing money, buying SIM cards, or pretending to be someone else. The sample card will not pass any check, and it is built so that it cannot.
How to make a sample KTP on this page
Type a NIK
Sixteen digits in the boxes at the top. From the NIK the card fills in the province, regency or city, district, birth date, and sex automatically. No NIK to use? Make a dummy one with the NIK generator.Fill in the other fields and add a photo
In the "Fill in the card yourself" panel, enter the name, place of birth, blood type, address, religion, marital status, occupation, nationality, validity, and the place and date of issue. A JPG, PNG, or WebP photo is cropped automatically to 3:4, like a passport photo, and shown in the frame on the right. Every field may be left empty.Download
Choose PNG, JPG, WebP, or PDF. The PNG is 2000 x 1261 pixels. The PDF places the card at its print size of 85.6 x 54 mm on an A4 page, so printed at 100% it matches a real card. The file name does not contain the NIK.
What fills in automatically and what you enter
A NIK stores only three things: the code of the issuing region, the birth date, and a serial. Sex is read from the rule that adds 40 to the birth day for women. Those fields fill in automatically and cannot be edited, so the sample card always agrees with its number. Everything else is not in the NIK and appears only if you type it:
| Field | Source |
|---|---|
| NIK, province, regency/city, district | Automatic, from the first six digits of the NIK, following the Ministry region codes |
| Birth date, sex | Automatic, from the middle six digits |
| Name, place of birth, blood type, address, RT/RW, village | Your entries |
| Religion, marital status, occupation, nationality, valid until | Your entries, from the options printed on real cards |
| Place and date of issue under the photo | Your entries; if empty, the regency or city from the NIK and today's date are used |
| Photo | Your upload, cropped to 3:4 |
| Signature, watermark | Fixed: the word "Sample" and the watermark "Sample only, NOT a real KTP" |
Card and photo size
The Indonesian e-KTP uses the standard ID-1 card size, 85.6 x 54 mm (3.37 x 2.13 inches), the same as bank cards and driving licences, with an aspect ratio of 1.586. This page uses that size for the PDF, so a print can be compared directly with a real card.
The photo is cropped to 3:4, the usual passport-photo ratio, keeping the upper middle of the image where a face normally is. If the crop is off, trim the photo in your phone's gallery first and upload it again.
Why the watermark and the "Sample" signature are always there
A sample card that looks exactly like a real KTP will be used for fraud, whatever the tool's author intended. So this page adds three markers that have no off switch:
- A dense watermark reading "Sample only, NOT a real KTP" runs diagonally across the whole card, photo included, both on screen and in every downloaded file.
- The signature always reads "Sample", not a scribble that could pass as a real signature.
- No state emblem, no hologram, and a footer line saying the image is a sample rendering.
These markers keep the card useful for mockups and testing and useless for fraud. If you need a card without a watermark, what you need is not a sample, and this page is not the right tool.
How this differs from a blank KTP template or a photo editor
Searches for an "Indonesian ID card template" or a "custom KTP" usually lead to Word, PSD, or PNG files, or printing services, whose output can be filled in freely with no marking at all. Here the card can still be customised, within clear limits. The differences:
- The card follows the NIK. Region and birth date always match the number, so the sample makes sense in tests.
- The watermark and the "Sample" signature cannot be removed; a blank template has no safeguard at all.
- Nothing is downloaded from strangers, no macros, no download ads.
- No Photoshop or Canva needed. Everything runs in the browser, phones included.
The legal side
Printing, issuing, or distributing Indonesian population documents without authority carries up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to IDR 1 billion under Article 96A of Law No. 24 of 2013, which amended the Population Administration Law. Using a sample card as if it were a real document, for example to register for a service or deceive someone, also counts as document forgery under the Criminal Code. The sample card from this page is built so that it cannot be used that way, but responsibility for its use stays with the user.
One more thing: never upload anyone's real KTP, including your own, to any online tool just to make a sample. This page does not ask for and does not need a photo of a real card.
